IT IS FINISHED!
I give credence to the pain you’ve been through, But TODAY I stretch forth my hand And I say Come. For silver and gold had I not, But all that I now have, I give to you. To see you leap for joy once more, To see you praise, and dance, and laugh. I have been in the dark with you. That impotent place I know so well — ‘Land of despair, land of the dead’. I lay in the silence, bound by chords of my love for you. Wrapped in linen, in cold stone sealed. When they thought that hope had been nailed and killed. Still, I lay, for the enemy to think that he won. Still I lay, Waiting I lay, as I bore the weight Of every sin, Of every sorrow, Every pain, Every cry. Not watching from some distant sky. I descended to hell, I went to Sheol. Loosing every power, every chain. Death thought it held the final answer. It did not know that I AM He. I wrestled and won, fought and prevailed, With power today, I call you COME FORTH! The time of death is passed, And surely you shall live again. For with the morning comes the turning. The Sun of Righteousness rising, With great healing in His wings. To flood you with light and love and LIFE, My redeemed, for whom great price I paid. You shall return — sorrow and sighing fleeing away. You shall arise; you shall alight. Beauty for your ashes, The oil of joy where mourning held its throne. I have called you by your name — You. Are. Mine. Though you thought yourself forsaken, With my “It is finished” in death, Your “life” gloriously begins. So I lift you up and raise you high, Above death, Above sickness, Above poverty, Above danger, Above tribulation, Above trials, Above all that is named in the pit of hell. So get up, arise, and shine — You, son of the promise, daughter of light, arise! Mount up — yes, mount up! Running and not weary, walking and not faint. Oh! Forever on eagles’ wings YOU FLY!!! Your youth renewed, your strength restored — Though you were forsaken, Though you were abandoned, Though you were dead, Yet shall you LIVE! Arise, arise, arise — For Christ, your light has come. HE is risen. AND… IT. IS. FINISHED © Adepero Mettabel Okulaja, Revised 2026.
